This is a typical, neat, classy collection of poems with a nice formal font, no swirly illustrations, its all about the poetry and I expect nothing more from such an icon. I don’t need to talk about whether she uses techniques properly because we all know how good she is, so in this review video I’m going to talk about how it made me feel, and the different themes that she writes about as well as read a couple of pieces from them. The first part of this collection, almost had me in tears. I get the sense that Margaret’s looking back over life and it’s so subtle, but really hits you in the gut. I’m only 28 but I often wonder what I’d be thinking when looking back over the years, and old poems, old memories and old photos. I mean just looking back at some of my older videos shocks me. This is also the book she has published since the passing of her long time partner Graeme Gibson. Let me read some of the poems that really stood out for me. I think what really hit me is that I watched a documentary on her the night before I started reading this, which I’ll leave in the description. It could have had an impact on my interpretation but in the documentary she’s quite young, and of course this collection was published with Atwood aged 80, so again I just imagined her sitting at her table looking over life and pondering. As well as mortality, other themes in the book are nature and climate change. Which are two themes I also hold very dear to my heart and I am happy to see such an iconic poem speaking out so heavily about them. Painting fantastical beauty with her words, which she’s perfect at, she is constantly reminding us of the ever impending doom humanity face. Now some people have labeled the collection as stale, but other than having a soft spot for Margaret Atwood, it’s a breath of fresh air to read a book of poems from an accomplished and knowledgable woman of the craft… and anything that can get me welling up with the opening few pages has to be labeled as profoundly brilliant in my books. _______________________ CREDITS: "Subscribe Button" by MrNumber112    • Free Download: Subscribe Button + Not...   this description contains affiliated links, which when purchased through pay me a small commission which goes a long way in supporting the channel. thank you
