For many years, bears in Albania and Kosovo were held captive by restaurant owners. Having bears in restaurant would attract tourists and get them more business. These bears were not treated well, as known. Kosovo government along with Four Paws (an NGO) put an end to this practice and rescued as many as 19 bears and created this sanctuary, a home for these bears. . This is not a zoo, but a happy home .They have made enclosures really huge to replicate a natural setting for the bears. There are swimming pools, wooden play area in every enclosure for bears to play. The entry to the sanctuary is €2, but the place is amazing and one can spend 3-4 hours here. . The enclosures are a round walk of 2kms, but thankfully the staff were about to feed the bears and asked us to join in their vehicle. We could see all the bears and kids really enjoyed the close encounter with these bears. There’s a lovely restaurant and kids play area too.
