I bought a Mongoose Dolomite fat bike for $279.00 from Walmart.com. I took it out for a first ride and I was favorably impressed. For an entry level bike it's actually put together pretty well, and it's fun to ride. With a purchase price under $300.00 it's a great way to get into fat biking, with room for upgrading as finances allow. Specifications and costs are below. I already have ordered a Shimano Rapidfire 7 speed trigger shifter to replace the twist grip shifter, and pair of Rockbros locking grips. I also have a set of Rockbros pedals coming, which have metal studs instead of the stock all plastic pedals. I will likely upgrade to a Shimano MegaRange 34 tooth freewheel, and a shorter stem with an aluminum handlebar. But those can all wait. Costs to date: Inital purchase: $279.00 USD (Walmart.com) Rockbros pedals: $19.95 USD (Amazon.com) Shimano Rapidfire trigger shifter: $18.00 USD (Amazon.com) Rockbros locking grips: $8.95 USD (Amazon.com) Total: $325.90 USD Dolomite specs Frame: Steel Fork: Steel Rear Shock: None Front Derailleur: None Rear Derailleur: Shimano Tourney TX 7-speed (SIS Index) Freewheel: 14-28t Freewheel Cranks: 170mm Aluminum Alloy Chainring: 36 tooth Headset: 1 ⅛” Threadless Stem: Alloy 25.4mm Handlebar: 685mm steel Grips: Mongoose Slide-on Rubber Shifter: Plastic Grip Twist Shifter, Indexed Front Brake: Mechanical Rear Brake: Mechanical Rotors: 160mm Steel Rotors Seatpost: 28.6mm Steel Saddle: Mongoose Front Hub: 135mm Bolt-On Rear Hub: 190mm Bolt-On Rims: 100mm Non-Drilled Alloy Tires: 26” x 4.0” Weight, Complete Bike: 48 lbs
