ANTENNAE, concert version (2021) for Byzantine chanters, mixed choir, four trumpets, two sets of bells, string quartet and two organs. During a Creative Fusion residency at the Cleveland Museum of Art, Aleksandra Vrebalov wrote ANTENNAE, inspired by the museum's "Virgin Eleousa," a 15th-century icon attributed to the Greek artist Angelos Akotantos. Originally conceived of as a site-specific sound experience featuring members of the Serbian Orthodox Kovilj Monastery choir, 60 local singers, four trumpets, two organs, and percussion, ANTENNAE was intended to be "a human tuning fork through which we align and for a moment sustain a common frequency." The work was to receive its world premiere at the Cleveland Museum of Arts on March 27, 2020. The event was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The concert version of ANTENNAE got its performance on May 7, 2021 in Novi Sad's Roman Catholic Church of the Name of Mary. Тhis musical event united for the first time: Choir of the School of Byzantine Chanting "St. John of Damascus," with hieromonk Jerotej conducting, Choir of the Academy of Arts Novi Sad, Novi Sad Chamber Choir, TAJJ String Quartet, an ensemble of students and professors of the Academy of Arts in Novi Sad and the Serbian National Theater percussionists Ivan Burka and Milica Grubisic, Božidar Crnjanski, conducting. In ANTENNAE, chanters and monks from Serbian-orthodox monastery in Kovilj chant an excerpt of "The Secret Command," the Apolytikion of the Saturday of the Akathist (the fifth Saturday of Lent) in plagal fourth mode. The language is old Slavonic.
