White Face Hornets destroys camera

This test was preformed on a White Face Hornets nest in a residential property in Chicopee MA on Sept 16 2014. The goal: To observe changes in the White Face Hornets activity after introducing something new to the entrance of their hive. A small camera mounted to a thin tripod was placed in front the White Face Hornets nest to see how they might respond to a non moving, non living object a few weeks after their hive was completed. At first, a few scout hornets went to investigate the camera. After 3 minutes back and forth communicating to their colony, the White Face Hornets decided to deploy their solders and did not show signs of slowing down or stopping. They stung and covered the camera with their toxic venom for nearly 10 minutes before the camera had to be turned off and removed. The conclusion: White Face Hornets will not stop trying to defend their hive. This video shows just how dangerous White Face Hornets are to even to the slightest difference of something new being introduced near their hive. White Face Hornets may be docile until their nest is built and completed. Once their home is completed and they have a place to grow their colony, they will become more of a threat as they have more soldiers to deploy and defend.
