Castro Marim deu início às celebrações natalícias com a inauguração do tradicional Presépio do Sal e das Artes, realizada no dia 1 de dezembro, da parte da tarde, na Casa do Sal. O evento marcou o arranque oficial da quadra festiva no concelho, valorizando o “ouro branco” das salinas locais e cruzando-o com saberes artesanais que fazem parte da identidade cultural da região. Entre toneladas de sal e centenas de figuras, o presépio integra elementos de empreita e cestaria, trabalhados por artesãos da Junqueira e da serra interior, que dão forma a peças únicas com raízes na tradição agrícola, pesqueira e doméstica. Um dos grandes destaques desta edição é o presépio de cestaria em cana, produzido por Martinho Fernandes e Paula Gaspar, que ocupa lugar central na Casa do Sal. As peças de empreita contam com a assinatura de Albina Sequeira, Maria Fernanda Fernandes, Sebastião Sequeira e Diamantino Romeira. A presidente da Câmara Municipal, Filomena Sintra, sublinhou que o presépio é também uma forma de valorizar os produtos e ofícios tradicionais, como o sal certificado com Denominação de Origem Protegida (DOP), a cestaria e a empreita, reforçando a ligação entre património cultural e celebração natalícia. Aberto ao público até ao Dia de Reis, o Presépio do Sal e das Artes é mais do que uma representação da Natividade: é um espetáculo de identidade e memória coletiva, que convida visitantes a descobrir a riqueza das salinas e das artes manuais de Castro Marim. --------------------- Castro Marim kicked off its Christmas celebrations with the inauguration of the traditional Salt and Arts Nativity Scene, held on the afternoon of 1 December at Casa do Sal. The event marked the official start of the festive season in the municipality, highlighting the ‘white gold’ of the local salt pans and combining it with the craftsmanship that is part of the region's cultural identity. Among tonnes of salt and hundreds of figures, the nativity scene incorporates elements of wickerwork and basketry, crafted by artisans from Junqueira and the inland mountains, who create unique pieces rooted in agricultural, fishing and domestic traditions. One of the highlights of this edition is the cane basketry nativity scene, produced by Martinho Fernandes and Paula Gaspar, which occupies a central place in the Casa do Sal. The pieces of woodwork are signed by Albina Sequeira, Maria Fernanda Fernandes, Sebastião Sequeira and Diamantino Romeira. The Mayor, Filomena Sintra, emphasised that the nativity scene is also a way of promoting traditional products and crafts, such as salt certified with Protected Designation of Origin (PDO), basketry and wickerwork, reinforcing the link between cultural heritage and Christmas celebrations.
