What to Expect in a Plastic Surgery Consultation • What to Expect in a Plastic Surgery Consul... #PlasticSurgery #CosmeticSurgery #SurgicalConsultation #PatientCare #AestheticGoals #BoardCertifiedSurgeon #VirtualConsultation #PreOp #SurgeryPlanning #BeautyConfidence Today, I want to talk about something super important—what exactly happens during a consultation with a plastic surgeon? I thought I’d reveal what happens to make your visit easier. First, you'll start by checking in with the front office to ensure your paperwork is in order. You’ll likely meet with a clinical staff member, such as a nurse or physician assistant, before seeing the doctor. Some consultations are free, while others come with a fee. Early in my career, I offered free consultations seven days a week, but over time, I started valuing my time more. Some surgeons charge as much as $600 for a consultation, while I only charge $100—and that’s a lifetime fee! This means you can come back for as many follow-up visits as you need without ever paying again. Now, here’s some more info. A consultation isn’t just about the surgeon evaluating you; it’s a two-way interview. This is your chance to assess how comfortable you feel and to answer three key questions: Is this the right office for me? Should I go for a surgical or non-surgical option? Which surgeon do I want performing my procedure? One thing I always stress—please make sure you see your surgeon before the day of surgery! I personally prefer to meet my patients at least three times: once during the consultation, once for a pre-op visit the day before surgery, and finally, right before the procedure. If your surgeon is first seeing you on the day of surgery, that’s a red flag for me. It's a recipe for disaster. For my out-of-town patients, we also offer virtual consultations, so don’t worry—you won’t be flying in blindly. But remember, meeting your surgeon ahead of time is crucial to avoid any last-minute surprises and to ensure you’re on the same page. I hope this makes sense. Dr. Sam Speron
