This video introduces Kepler's Laws of Planetary Motion from Theme D of the IB Physics SL & HL courses. Starting with Kepler's First Law, the nature of elliptical orbits is discussed. The concept of planets sweeping out equal areas in equal times, Kepler's Second Law, is then illustrated and discussed in terms of the relationship between the kinetic and gravitational potential energy of the orbiting body at different locations in its orbit.
