If the stenosis in the coronary arteries cannot be dialted or stentable, or if there are other indications for cardiac surgery, a coronary bypass operation is performed. Typically, the surgeon will connect the patient to the heart-lung machine after taking the vein. If, however, the constrictions are in the region of the anterior wall and do not require dislocation of the heart or contraindications for the application of the heart-lung machine, the operation is performed on a beating heart. In this case, the region with the vessel stenosis or the vessel closure is stabilized by means of a suction appartus. In the stabilized area, the surgeon opens the coronary artery and pushes the transient stent into the lumen. This stent directs the blood across the artery so that the surgeon has a free working area. When the anatomosis is almost sewn, the stent is retrieved again and the anastomosis is completed. Since the thoracic arteries are already connected to an artery, they do not have to be sewn to the aorta. The radial artery and the viens need to be sewn to the main aorta to form a vascular connection.
