Tell Yunatsite Excavations – Seeking Europe's First Civilization (Balkan Heritage Field School)

The Balkan Heritage project at Tell Yunatsite (one of the earliest urban settlements in Europe, 5th millenium BC) combines an archaeological dig and a field school - part of the Balkan Heritage Field School Program. It takes place for a month every July-August in Pazardzhik, Bulgaria and provides to students combination of: a hands-on experience in excavation of a prehistoric tell and finds' processing and documentation; comprehensive instruction and training on Chalcolithic period in Europe and Field Archaeology plus trips to unique archaeological sites in Bulgaria and beyound. It is realized in cooperation with Tell Yunatsite Excavation Team and Regional Museum of History, Pazardzhik. Balkan Heritage Field School (BHFS) is an educational program of the Balkan Heritage Foundation in the fields of archaeology, art history and historic preservation.
