Maitham Al Tammar, a loyal companion of Imam Ali (as) was a date merchant. In the society where he lived, he was considered a lower class citizen because of his profession. Despite his lack of material wealth, we find that he was endowed with great knowledge acquired from the Ahlulbayt (as). He is proof that knowledge is a gift from our Almighty creator and can be received at any moment regardless of one's background, job or colour. A slave who became a king by selling dates on the streets of Kufa, Maytham ibn Yahya al-Tammar was a companion and disciple of Imam Ali (as).
