Challenge: In many situations, the improvement or redesign of a power converter is limited by its previous versions: the switching frequency is imposed by transistors, drivers and EMI filters, the available footprint for the inductor is restricted to keep the same PCB, the cooling strategy is already in place in the enclosure, etc.. This greatly limits the redesign and optimization of the magnetic component, since the constraints are so tight that a generic new design from scratch is impossible. Solution: In SmartNetics, the user can set some design parameters to a given value while leaving the rest open. Thanks to this, they can design a new inductor that keeps the same geometry, footprint, connections, etc., but that is best suited for a new application: different winding arrangement, distributed gaps, different materials… On top of that, the user gets an in-depth analysis of the new losses, temperature distribution and saturation to ensure the new device meets requirements. Once redesigned, the user can easily generate a report with the new materials and manufacturing needs, and even export it to third-party tools, such as Siemens-Flux for electromagnetic analysis or Ansys (Maxwell for electromagnetic or Icepak for thermal analysis).
