Finally time to replace my old, corroded RV porch light with a new LED RV Porch Light. It isn't obvious in the video but make sure the light is OFF before you start. Once I had the wires exposed I verified with my volt meter that there was no power to the light. Filmed with GoPro Hero9 https://amzn.to/3wysIeH I recommend going to the actual GoPro website as they usually sell it cheaper directly. I went with an LED which should be both brighter and use less electricity for those boondocking nights when I am both on my battery and there is no other light source. Goo Gone https://amzn.to/2Vfqwwc I have used Goo Gone now several times and I like it. Just need to clean up the Goo Gone before applying new adhesive. 70% Isopropyl Alcohol https://amzn.to/37hvYRo Simple rubbing alcohol that you can buy anywhere to clean up the Goo Gone. You probably have some already. JB Plastic Weld https://amzn.to/3xsP2GR JB makes lots of products. This one is a putty that I can shape and push threw the screw holes to prevent water leakage. I also put a generous amount over the big hole where the wires went into the wall. Plastic Scraper https://amzn.to/3Afj1UR Just buy 1, you don't need 6. This link goes to the 6 pack because I can't find the link to just one. In the end your fingernail does better but you only have so much fingernail. Painter's Tool https://amzn.to/2Vx1Fnj These tools try to do as many functions as possible like having socket cutouts for bolt heads. Why? That's what I have socket sets. Just get one that will do the job you need like scrapping and cutting around sealants applied to fixtures. I like the style with a sharp point that is "sharpened" on both sides so that I can scrape/cut around corners of small objects like lights. I also would not go for a scrapper with a very wide main blade as we are needing this tool for small projects and not large surface areas. Electric Wire Stripper https://amzn.to/3ludXYo If you are going to RV, you are going to need to learn some basic electrical repair which means a few electrical repair tools. Volt Meter https://amzn.to/3s5NIJj This is Amazon's best seller and it's cheap. Doesn't necessarily mean it's the best but it will do the job. More times than not it's good enough. You are working on a RV and appliances, not a submarine and its nuclear reactor. Electrical Tape https://amzn.to/3Cgrvwz If you don't already own electrical tape, well then I don't think we can be friends anymore. Sure you almost never need it, until you do. Electrical Wire Nuts https://amzn.to/3inYhUM Just get a small assortment and save yourself multiple future trips to the hardware store. Caulking gun https://amzn.to/3riaihm Your kids will love playing with it as a toy gun. At least I did as a kid. Don't lie, I can't be the only one. GE Window & Door Advanced Silicone https://amzn.to/3z4cwUh This is the white one where as I used the clear one. I put a nice bead around the top and sides but not the underside so as to allow water to drain away should water get between the light and wall. I used my finger to smooth over the silicone. Making a nice clean, smooth bead around the light is clearly a learned skill as it took me some time to make it "look nice". *I am a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for me to earn fees by linking to Amazon.com and affiliated sites.
