Level up your tree painting skills with this tutorial! 🎨🌲 Many of you shared that you struggled with the fan brush so in this video I introduce the filbert brush tree style by comparing both beginner painting techniques side by side. 🖌 You will need: Acrylic craft paint Fan brush Filbert brush I painted these on 12x12 textured cardstock for demonstration purposes, but you can use any size canvas! The fan brush is great for beginner painters because it can create the tree shape very quickly. However with a little more time, the filbert brush can be just as beginner friendly! A filbert brush is an oval shaped brush with a curved tip. It is similar to the fan brush shape but much smaller. Because of this the filbert brush allows you to have more control over the shape and direction of each tree branch. To paint a tree with the fan brush: 1. 00:17 Load brush with dark green 2. 00:23 Paint vertical line for center of tree 3. 00:27 Hold the brush horizontally and start tapping back and forth at the tip of the line continuing down the line in a zig zag pattern *Remember to make it wider at the bottom to create the tall triangle shape! 4. 2:26 Once the dark green is dry, repeat this step with a medium green, leaving some of the dark green showing through for shading 5. 2:45 Repeat this step again with white for snow! To paint a tree with the filbert brush: 1. 1:00 Load brush with dark green 2. 1:04 Paint vertical line for center of tree 3. 1:07 Hold the brush horizontally and start tapping back and forth (the same way you do for the fan!) 3. 1:15 Continue to add tapping brush strokes down the vertical line getting wider as you get to the bottom. *TIP: 1:35 it helps to create "shelves" and fill in as you go. make sure to tilt the handle so that the taps are tilted slightly more vertical towards the center of the tree and more horizontal on the outside edges! 4. 3:00 Repeat this step when the dark green is dry with a medium green 5. 3:38 If you want snow repeat this step again with white #paintingideas #acrylicpainting #howto
