Systematic Foliar Anatomy in Nine Strobilanthes Blume Species (Acanthaceae) from Kerala, India Layman's Abstract: Strobilanthes Blume is a genus with about 200 species, mostly found in Asia. These plants are either shrubs or herbs, and they often have opposite leaves. While not many species have been studied in detail, this research focused on the anatomical features of the leaves from nine different species of Strobilanthes collected in Kerala, India. The study found that all the leaves were bifacial (having two distinct sides) and showed differences in features like the arrangement of vascular tissue, presence of supportive tissues (sclerenchyma and collenchyma), and other small structures like cystoliths (crystals) and sphaeraphides (needle-like crystals). These differences were important for distinguishing between species, and the findings were used to create a key to help identify them.
