Building Energy-Efficient Schools: Practical Strategies & Insights

Climate Challenge Network conducted a national research project on behalf of Natural Resources Canada’s Codes Acceleration Fund, examining the operating energy efficiency of recently constructed K-12 schools. This study benchmarked the energy performance of over 200 schools from five Canadian provinces, all opened since 2015, against an NECB 2020 reference archetype. The findings reveal a wide range of performance, offering valuable lessons for planning, design, energy modeling, construction, commissioning, and operations.
