India’s Oil Security Plan: Government Steps In as Global Energy Crisis Fears Rise Decode With Sudhir Chaudhary: Amid concerns of a global oil crisis triggered by the Iran war, the Indian government has taken several steps to secure fuel supplies. India imports nearly 90% of its crude oil along with a large share of LPG and LNG, much of which passes through the Strait of Hormuz. To prevent hoarding and ensure availability, the government has invoked the Essential Commodities Act and asked refineries to increase LPG production. All refineries in the country are currently operating at full capacity while domestic oil output has also been increased. Officials say India currently has fuel reserves for about 70 days and there is no need for panic among consumers.
