February 11th: International Day for Women and Girls in Science "To conserve means to keep; to protect from damage." But how can girls protect what they don't know exists? In Gombe State, Nigeria, ASESD is changing that narrative. In celebration of Women and Girls in Science Day, we took conservation education directly to the classroom; introducing female students to careers they never knew were possible. The Reality: → Most students in rural Nigeria have never heard of conservation biology → Girls are often steered toward traditional careers like nursing, rarely ecology → Yet Nigeria's biodiversity desperately needs the next generation of female scientists The Celebration: On this International Day for Women and Girls in Science, we're breaking barriers. Watch as: Students learn what conservation and ecologist mean for the first time A new science laboratory opens doors to STEM opportunities Young women declare: With determination, I can achieve anything An entire community rallies around girls in science Seeds are planted for future female conservationists From new science labs to career-defining moments, this is how we close the gender gap in STEM—one classroom, one girl, one dream at a time. The future of conservation is female. Let's celebrate it. 🎬 About This Project: Celebrating: International Day for Women and Girls in Science (Feb 11) Location: Government Secondary School Doma, Gombe State Led by: Jedidah Akawu Jacob, ASESD Founder & CEO #Feb11 #WomenInScience #GirlsInSTEM #InternationalDayForWomenAndGirlsInScience #EcoEducation #Nigeria #Conservation #BiodiversityMatters #STEMEducation #FutureScientists #WomenInConservation #GrassrootsChange #GombeState
