Join in the fun as we pick, wash, cut, grind, and press our apples into delicious homemade apple cider! In this video, we take you along with us as we press our homegrown apples into fresh homemade apple cider. Learn how we found and rebuilt our cider press, and watch as we grind our apples using the Maximizer Apple Grinder, and talk about its results. We hand wash bushels of apples in our kitchen sink, cut them into quarters, and grind them into an apple pulp. This pulp is then put into a pressing bag which is placed in the press basket (or tub) and squeezed into Apple Cider. CANNING OUR CIDER After pressing our cider, we strain it through a clean, dampened pressing bag. It is then cooked on the stove to a simmer at 200 degrees. We pour the cider into hot jars leaving ½” of headroom. Adjust our lids and process in a hot-water bath at 190 degrees for 30 minutes. Remove and cool. TOOLS AND ACCESSORIES WE USED Rebuilt Apple Cider Press You can usually find used apple cider presses fairly easily online. Some might need to be rebuilt (like ours), but with a little bit of elbow grease and yankee ingenuity, you can have it back up and running in no time. Pressing Bag We found our pressing bags here: https://www.lehmans.com/product/press... Maximizer Apple Grinder Find the Maximizer Apple Grinder here: https://pleasanthillgrain.com/maximiz... (watch our video to learn what we thought about this grinder) Food Processor or Blender We used a blender to chop our apples into a finer pulp. This worked really well and seemed to provide better apple cider yield. Remember, SAFETY FIRST when using a ladder to reach those hard-to-get apples near the top of the tree! 00:00 Introduction 00:16 Picking Apples 01:20 Washing and Grinding Our Apples 02:05 About our Cider Press 06:18 The Maximizer Apple Grinder (Does it really work?) 10:40 A Pressing Situation 12:58 - Cooking and Canning our Apple Cider 14:42 We're going to keep Pressing #AppleCider #ApplePicking
