(16 Nov 1995) T/I: 10:49:45 A Jordanian official said on Thursday (16/11) that Jordan's King Hussein had ordered the removal of a bronze statue erected in honour of his 60th birthday, one night before it was to be unveiled. The giant North Korean-made statue of Hussein was put up outside the government palace in Amman. After Hussein saw the statue he ordered it to be taken down. It depicted the king wearing the keffieh or traditional headscarf with a book in his left hand and his right arm raised.
