Hot, Cold, Dry & Wet - The Humour System in Man and the Macrocosm

In this presentation, I discuss the alchemical perspective on health and disease. I introduce the ancient medical system of the Humours, which was understood and served humanity for over 2000 years before modern medicine rejected it. I look at how the humours relate to health, diet, the weather, as well as their operation in the earth realm (macrocosm). Humoral theory recognises four key fluids in the body that correspond with the four elements, fire (hot-dry), air (hot-wet), water (cold-wet), and earth (cold-dry). Health conditions and personality traits are said to be the result of the relative proportions of these fluids, and disease arises when there is an excess or deficiency in one or more of them. I also look at how these energetic qualities manifest in the different parts of the world and how they affect the type of growth that occurs.
