Tragedy struck Manipur’s Kangpokpi district after a policeman, who was also a local, was shot dead in the line of duty in the Leimakhong area on Thursday night. The deceased has been identified as head constable Lenglam Dimngel. As per reports, the incident took place when armed miscreants attacked L.Tangnaum, formerly known as Haraothel, L. Munlai, and Bethel villages early on Thursday morning. Reports also suggest that two village volunteers were also wounded during the attack. In the afternoon at around 4:30 pm, the armed miscreants reportedly launched another attack at Bethel village and killed the policeman while on duty. The mortal remains of Dimngel was first taken to the Kankpokpi Police Station where his colleagues led by Officer-in-Charge H. Kipgen, offered their last respect with a gun salute. Later, at around midnight, the mortal remains were taken to the office premises of the Kangpokpi Superintendent of Police where several civil society organisations including the Kuki Inpi Manipur, Committee on Tribal Unity Sadar Hills, Kangpokpi Town Committee, Kuki Inpi Saikul, Kangpokpi Town Churches Fellowship, Kangpokpi Women Welfare Organization, Kangpokpi Youth Union, and several other leaders from the district joined the SP Kangpokpi Manoj Prabhakar and security forces to pay their last respects to the "Martyr". As a custom and tradition, the Kuki civil society organizations led by the Kuki Inpi Manipur wrapped a traditional shawl, "Saipikhup" over the mortal remains of Dimngel as a mark of tribute. SP Kangpokpi, while paying homage to the Martyr policeman, said that Dimngel is a Martyr. Later, the cop’s mortal remains was taken to his native village Ichaigojang in an ambulance accompanied by his wife and relatives for his burial ceremony. #EastMojo #EastStory #northeastindia #northeast #manipur #kangpokpi #manipurpolice #nbirensingh #amitshah ***** Subscribe: / @eastmojoofficial ***** Visit our website: https://www.eastmojo.com/ Facebook: / eastmojo Twitter: / eastmojo Instagram: / east.mojo *****
