🌿 Plastids – Structure, Types, and Functions Plastids are double-membrane bound organelles found in the cells of plants and algae. They are responsible for making and storing food and pigments. Plastids contain their own DNA and ribosomes, which means they can replicate independently within the cell. 🔬 Structure of Plastids Surrounded by a double membrane Contain stroma (fluid inside) Have their own circular DNA May contain internal membrane structures (like thylakoids in chloroplasts) 🌈 Types of Plastids 1️⃣ Chloroplasts (Green Plastids) Function: Photosynthesis Contain green pigment chlorophyll Trap sunlight to make food (glucose) Found in green parts of plants (mainly leaves) Main role: 2️⃣ Chromoplasts (Colored Plastids)
