Here's an up close and personal look at a Fox contrabassoon! I'll share some information and pictures of the instrument then play the 2nd Minuet from the Bach Cello Suite so you can hear how it sounds. (DISCLAIMER: I have NOT been paid to make these videos. They're for you to learn more about contrabassoons!) There were't any videos on YouTube about the different Contra makers, so I though I would do a few videos for people who want to find out more about the various instruments out there. Thanks to Steve Heintz for lending me his horn for a few weeks to do this video and to Chip Owen who gave me a tour of the Fox factory last Thanksgiving. Overall info about the Fox: made in South Whitley, Indiana USA based off a 1960's Heckel. started making contras in 1971 Better horn than #008 (mid '70s) which I played back in Ohio. improved tone and intonation stronger metal (started in late 80's) - Physically, uses wooden arch at the very top highly customizable keyword base model is without many rollers though. available in brown or black bottom peg is a bit thin High Eb is middle finger only Dark tone Suggest a bright bocal like a Heckel #C2 I also hope to review more instruments. Please contact me contrabassoon@yahoo.com if you can help me make this happen. Thanks! • Amati • Heckel • Moennig Adler • Mollenhauer • Püchner Hosted by Jonathan Westerling in Sausalito. Video recorded on a GoPro with audio recorded on a ZoomH4. Thanks to Manu for her helpful suggestions. :-)
