Telangana News | Speaker Clears Five BRS MLAs | Defection Case | BRS to Move High Court | KATV India #TelanganaNews #BRS #DefectionCase #MLANews #TelanganaPolitics #HighCourtUpdate #PoliticalNews #IndianPolitics #BRSMLAs #ElectionNews #LegislativeAssembly #PoliticalUpdate #TelanganaPoliticsNews #BreakingNewsIndia #IndiaNews #LawAndPolitics #CourtDecision #PoliticalDevelopment #katvindia The Telangana Assembly Speaker has dismissed disqualification petitions against five BRS MLAs accused of switching loyalty to the Congress after the party came to power in December 2023. The ruling has sparked sharp political reactions, with the BRS announcing that it will challenge the decision in the High Court. In a significant political development in Telangana, Assembly Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar on Wednesday dismissed a set of disqualification petitions filed by the Bharat Rashtra Samithi, or BRS, against five MLAs. The Speaker stated that there was no sufficient material or proof to establish that the MLAs had violated the Anti Defection Law under the Tenth Schedule of the Constitution. The MLAs named in the petitions were Tellam Venkat Rao from Bhadrachalam, Bandla Krishna Mohan Reddy from Gadwal, T. Prakash Goud from Rajendranagar, Gudem Mahipal Reddy from Patancheru, and Arekapudi Gandhi from Serilingampally. The Speaker read out his ruling in his chamber in the presence of both petitioners and respondents. Notably, this decision came just one day before the Supreme Court’s four week deadline, which was set after the apex court questioned delays in handling the disqualification cases. Soon after the ruling, the BRS, led by former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao, announced that it would challenge the Speaker’s decision in the Telangana High Court. The Speaker is now expected to announce his decision today on similar disqualification petitions against three more MLAs, Sanjay Kumar of Jagtial, Kale Yadaiah of Chevella, and Pocharam Srinivas Reddy of Banswada. Controversy had intensified after Pocharam Srinivas Reddy was appointed adviser to the government on agriculture, while Arekapudi Gandhi was made chairperson of the Public Accounts Committee, fuelling speculation of a change in political loyalty. Meanwhile, two other legislators, Danam Nagender and Kadiyam Srihari, are yet to respond to notices. Both were elected on BRS tickets in 2023 but later joined the Congress. BRS cited their active role in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections as evidence of defection. Danam contested from Secunderabad on a Congress ticket, while Kadiyam campaigned for his daughter, Congress MP Kadiyam Kavya, in Warangal. Earlier, on July 31, the Supreme Court ruled that Assembly Speakers do not enjoy constitutional immunity while deciding defection cases. The court also criticised delays and had even issued a contempt notice to the Speaker in November. Reacting strongly, BRS Working President K. T. Rama Rao accused the Congress of “murdering democracy” on the floor of the Assembly. He alleged that the ruling party was protecting defectors to avoid by elections and claimed rising public anger against the Revanth Reddy government. With the BRS set to approach the High Court, the political and legal battle over defections in Telangana is far from over. #katvindia. #IndianEnglishchannel #SouthIndiainEnglish #indiandigitalmedia #IndiannewsinEnglish #Indianlifestylecontent #IndiancultureinEnglish #IndiantoriesSouthIndianculture #breakings #topnews #indianews #worldnews #politicalnews #dailyupdates #newstoday #Indiancurrentaffairs #Indianinterviews #EnglishvideosfromIndia #englishnewsindia #indiaenglishnews #newsoftheday # #topnews #latestnews #indianews #newsupdate #breakingnewsindia #indianewstoday #topnewsheadlines #katvindia #katvindianews 🎥 Welcome to KATV India – India's Voice in English 🇮🇳 KATV India is a digital media platform bringing powerful Indian stories, voices, and perspectives to a global audience — all in English.
