Official music video for "Running Wild" from the Album "Myself to You" https://open.spotify.com/album/3cg6DG... From director Joe Bowden: “I’ve been a huge fan of Sunbathe’s music for a long time. Maggie and I, the songwriter and singer knew each other a little bit so I reached out to see if they had some new music that they might need a video for and it turned out that Sunbathe was at the tail end of recording this record. I pitched her a couple concepts and nothing quite stuck, so we decided to approach it in a less structured way. I had two 400’ rolls of expired Fuji 65D that a friend gave me, and I had also just done some experiments mixing 16mm film and old school HI8 video, so we decided to make a sort of half-improvised video without using any modern digital cinema at all. I think the result has an amazing dissonance with the film being rich and beautiful and having a feeling of intimacy and then the early digital video being cold and graphic and kind of distant and two dimensional. Together though they have a sort of coherence insofar as both mediums have a deep nostalgic quality. They feel like cousins in a way- like the country mouse and the city mouse, and the way that they interplay saws through you in a really cool way when coupled with this gorgeous song. I brought on my friend and frequent collaborator Avant-Gard filmmaker Noel David Taylor to shoot the low-fi camera stuff and at times we shot the film and tape simultaneously which has a really cool effect when cut together. I love how the video came out and as Sunbathe band member Adria said when she saw the video, “I want to live in that world” Directed by Joe Bowden and shot by Joe, Noel David Taylor, and Olivia Bayer on Hi8, Mini DV, and 16mm Film.
