Both airlines and passengers lost trust in the jet, and while it eventually became a reliable operator, neither its reputation - nor its order book - fully recovered. Now, it’s easy to draw parallels between the DC-10 and 737 MAX. Like the Douglas, the MAX also suffered catastrophic crashes early in its life, and it too has lost public trust.
