The community was over the moon when Yamaha unveiled the new XSR900 GP. It’s probably one of the best-looking bikes of 2024. But what lies behind that retro-inspired façade? It offers impressive levels of grip, excellent feedback, and a neutral steering feel. It’s easy to handle and warms up quickly, too. Both the RPHA 1 and RPHA 12 impressed us. Once a year, we get to feel like real superheroes – that’s when HJC sends over their new licensed Marvel models to the 1000PS editorial team. This time, it was two very different helmets. The HJC RPHA 1, as a top-tier racing helmet with FIM homologation, fits tightly on the head – as expected – and wraps snugly around the cheeks. The overall contact across the head is firm and secure. One tip when choosing your size: it runs a bit small! When in doubt, try one size up. The build quality of the RPHA 1 is excellent, and it makes a strong impression all round. In daily use, the limited noise insulation is a minor downside. The RPHA 12 looks a bit less aggressive in design, and also feels noticeably more comfortable and less tight on the head. Both helmets impressed us visually and technically. If you're looking for uncompromising sports performance, the RPHA 1 is a top-tier racing lid. But if your focus is road riding, the RPHA 12 will likely do the job just fine.
