One of the effects of GvHD is that her eyes are unable to produce natural tears which is extremely painful. For three years, Nicole had been looking for a cure and it was only until she met Dr. Gloria Chiu did she find one. Dr. Chiu is an experienced optometrist at the USC Roski Eye Institute with an extensive background in treating patients with GvHD, a rare condition. Nicole was prescribed the PROSE (prosthetic replacement of the ocular surface ecosystem) treatment, which looks similar to a contact lens and reduces symptoms, supports healing and improves vision.
