IOM Belarus helps migrants return home | Assisted Voluntary Return and Reintegration (AVRR) program

Since summer 2021, thousands of migrants became stranded in Belarus – in dire conditions in forests on the Belarus-EU border, as well as throughout the country. In November, many of them were accommodated at the Bruzgi logistics facility in the vicinity of the Belarus-Poland border serving as a temporary shelter for them. IOM provided various assistance to vulnerable migrants: food, hygiene items, clothing, medical assistance and mental health and psychosocial support services. Having spent months in a harsh environment, many people were willing to return home. IOM ensured their safe and dignified return with the Assisted Voluntary Return and Reintegration (AVRR) programme funded by the European Union.
