Interview In a Hut - part5 - The place of Marijuana in the Home

The illicit condition of Marijuana in South Africa, as in the world, is a very recent fabrication. The Amampondo people can't remember a start to their growing of Cannabis, and indeed it has been their practice since long before the arrival of foreigners on their land. The history of Cannabis prohibition in South Africa has its roots in racist laws that were designed to enslave people, forcing them into migrant labour, pushing them off of their land and out of their traditional self-sustainable ways. It is for these reasons, and so many more, that the illicit condition of this rich natural resource needs to be lifted, allowing for a more sensible approach to the management of South Africa's cultural heritage. In this video we hear the debate regarding the decriminalization of Marijuana from the perspective of the affected farmers.
