Hey everyone! Hope this video gives everyone a good idea of what counts for healthcare experience, patient care experience, and volunteering! Enjoy! Please read in its entirety, I added some clarifications at the bottom. Patient Care Experience Job Examples: Medical Assistant CNA Respiratory Therapist EMT/Paramedic Nurse Dietician EKG technician Physical Therapy Assistant LPN ER Tech Dialysis Aide Medical Mission Trips Phlebotomist Healthcare Experience Job Examples: Medical receptionist Medical scribe Patient transporter These are varied based on your school that you are applying to! If you have any question at all about whether your job counts as patient care experience, please contact your intended schools and ask! :) My experience: I was NOT a certified MA. I just applied everywhere, had a good cover letter and learned on the job. Other options to help land you an MA position that I’ve heard of is doing an EMT or phlebotomy course to up your chances “Good quality vs not as great” PCE options: Of course the not as great ones are accepted by schools. I’m not saying they’re not or that schools look at them any lesser than other PCE. I mean in a way that prepares you for the information that you will learn in PA school. You aren’t as exposed to doctors or PAs as a CNA. When I worked as an MA I worked first hand with a only a doctor and sometimes the PA every single day and they would teach me a lot. No hate on CNAs, I just think you learn more in other PCE options ☺️
