Winter 2021 Grow Journal 01 : House Mallows from Seed Pods - Episode 00 : Ready for Germination

With Summer over and the greater part of the outdoor growing done, it is time to get started on some inside projects and experiments for the Winter. The first one here is what I am calling a House Mallow. Our yards had a heavy population of Malva Neglecta this year, which after reading up on it and doing little tests and samplings here and there, we have determined is a plant worth keeping around. It seems every last bit is useful; seeds, leaves, and roots; though we haven't done anything with mallow roots this year yet other than dry a few samplings to work with as we learn. This is actually one weed I welcome in sane amounts as companion plants for the sunflowers, tomatoes, leeks, and just the yard itself; and a lawn that is a mix of normal grass and mallow leaves is actually quite pleasant under the feet. Anyway, I am now seeing if I can get some seeds to germinate. And the first one that does will get to be a companion plant to the spider plant I have here in my office. Just keeping them in a lid of water like this is good enough for germinating. Once at least one of them sprouts, I will post an update. This little tray of seed pods is also the topic of a time lapse video, which will carry over to one of the pods getting planted in a cup of dirt and grown out once the sprouts are big enough in the tray. The time lapse video will also have a period where there are sunflower seeds being germinated with the mallows as well. In fact, that is my second grow journal which will be getting uploaded after this. And who knows what else will be sharing this lid before the mallows are done? Heck, perhaps it will be a perpetual time lapse video as different seeds get cycled in, sprouted, and planted. So thanks for checking this out.
