In my experience, "dry begging" is one of the top (possibly favorite) tools the covert narcissist uses to manipulate those around them: partner, friends, acquaintances, coworkers, family members. In the mind of the narcissist, they delude themselves into thinking that because they're not directly asking for something that it means they're "powerful and strong". It helps them feed their "self-sufficiency" narrative. The most devious and malicious aspect of "dry begging" is that it gives the covert narcissist an avenue to avoid reciprocity. If you were to ask them for $10 and remind them you gave them $10 last week, they would respond: "Yes, but I NEVER ASKED YOU FOR $10" and consider the matter closed.
