Science and math teachers at XQ’s Crosstown High asked ninth graders to investigate problems on Earth and consider how to sustain life on Mars. Watch project-based learning in action as students build prototype environments, debate ethics, test plants for oxygen production, and more. They were skeptical about whether they were really learning until they took an example of a state test. Directed by Lee Hirsch Lee Hirsch is an award-winning filmmaker whose work includes the feature documentary “Bully.” Believing in the importance of the cause, Hirsch began a social media campaign on bullying and worked tirelessly to support grassroots movements to raise awareness, providing screenings of the film for kids and parents across the country and pushing for national legislation. Lee has worked with XQ since 2015 to capture the journeys of the XQ schools.
