This is the 1991 Memphis in May BBQ-fest performance of the original Memphis Del-tones featuring Richard Scott (lead vocal), Jim Umlauf (lead vocal), Mike Cleveland (bass), Gary Wimberly (guitar), Mike Russell (keys), Tom Salvadore (drums), Doug Green (trumpet), and Tom Link (sax). Over an eight-year span, The Original Memphis Del-tones thrilled tens of thousands. Described by the Commercial Appeal as "highly energetic—almost frenetic," the OMD entertained crowds from Memphis to the Mid-South to the Gulf Coast. There were elegant venues and parties, truly spectacular weddings, and club dates from Beale Street to the humblest of haunts. The simpatico, partnership and friendship of the front line was always evident, and the tightness and continuity of the band—"The Beating Heart of Rock n' Roll"—was a signature of this commanding part of Memphis music history.
