Not a sight you expect to see in 2023! Whitecourt to Edmonton L 51651 03 had a pair of CN SD40-2W's on July 3, 2023. The Sangudo Sub, is the former Canadian Northern Railway (CNoR) mainline between Edmonton and Vancouver, which ran northwest through St. Albert before heading south to Edson and Jasper. The Sangudo Sub features some quintessential Prairie Branch Line features, including large wooden trestles and old wooden grain elevators. We caught up with 516 at Mayerthorpe, Alberta passing the restored wooden grain elevator with CN 5242 and CN 5272. A short drive later, and we're at the Rochfort Trestle, one of several large wooden trestles on the CN Sangudo Sub. After Rochfort, we move on to the Sangudo Trestle, where we catch 516 soaring over the Pembina River. We make stops at Glenevis, Gunn and the Wooden Grain Elevator at Onoway, Alberta before checking out the Sturgeon River Trestle at Villeneuve, Alberta. We part ways with 516 at St. Albert, after watching them pass the two restored grain elevators on the west end of town. 0:00 L 51651 03 at Mayerthorpe, Alberta Elevator 2:41 L 51651 03 receives OCS Clearance on Sangudo Sub 4:00 L 51651 03 Rochfort Trestle 8:10 L 51651 03 Sangudo Trestle 10:02 L 51651 03 Glenevis Alberta 12:05 L 51651 03 Gunn Alberta 13:17 L 51651 03 Onoway Alberta Elevator 14:57 L 51651 03 Villeneuve Alberta Trestle 17:31 L 51651 03 St. Alberta Grain Elevators
