With the rapid rise of the automobile and new technologies in the 20th century, cities expanded quickly, often in the form of uncontrolled urbanisation and suburban sprawl. In response to these challenges, Copenhagen developed an innovative Transport-Oriented Development (TOD) strategy known as the Copenhagen Finger Plan.
