Gameplay of the unplayable character/NPC/Boss Rain in the Steam/PC Port of Netherrealm Studio’s Mortal Kombat X. [Rain’s moves are more or less the same as MK9. The only thing he seems to lose is that silly water spout attack of his.] Rain’s actually pretty good. For one, I absolutely love his design here; it was good in MK9, but the more regal look he has here is fantastic, and it’s ridiculous that they didn’t make him into a DLC character at some point. His moves work a little differently than in MK9 and, quite frankly, I actually preferred them. His Lightning attack doesn’t have as much floatiness to it, while his Water Ball attack acts as a regular stun move and allows for an immediate follow-up, unlike the weird properties it had in MK9. He’s pretty light in terms of combos, at least innately, but I actually found him pretty damn fun to play as here. One of the characters who really should have been given an official release, but I guess Netherrealm just weren’t too sure what to do with him. Pity. Still quite a basic, effectively unfinished character, but also one of the more interesting anomalies of this game. On the whole, actually quite competent, and I’ve seen some combo vids make pretty good use of him so there’s something to Rain here, despite his innate limitations otherwise. Most of his basic combos can combo into his water ball attack, and given that that’s much more useful here he goes from being the opaque character that he was in MK9 into one I found a lot more comprehensible by comparison. Lastly, Raspberry Beret is objectively the best Prince song. Next up, the only character to eventually get an official release, but one which is much different than her NPC version.
