Rochester NH History - A Nostalgic Trip Down Rochester's Main Street

In the mid 20th century, there was one location that offered a quick look into the everyday life in towns and cities across the country, it was the downtown and especially Main Street. Today, you might find these streets populated by tattoo parlors, coffee houses, and drug stores. But in simpler times, it was the place where soda shops sat next to local businesses, Storefronts lined both sides of the street, displaying everything from pastries to new cameras in big glass windows. The downtown of Rochester of the mid 20th century looks much different than the downtown we know today. Back then, it was the lively center of the community. Starting in the 1940's and into the 1970's it was more than just a place to go shopping, but a place to meet up and see familiar faces. #downtown #historicalsociety #historyfacts
