It's just blurred What's happened is, it's aging like rust This song is about being in a state of limbo and not fully understanding the world that surrounds us. Ever since coming out of a long-term relationship, this past year has been one of the toughest for me. I've found myself back in my family home, yet the dynamics have changed, connections have faded, and my outlook on life isn't the same "but where can I refill?". But is that just life taking its course? "ageing like rust". Mentally I've found ways to appreciate the positivity in things and songwriting has helped me through it. "it is, then it's not". For this song I allowed myself to really open up to these struggling emotions and let them write the piece. I've always found it difficult to express with words, so even though lyrically, this may seem to say all that is needed, the accompanying instrumental is where my true feelings lie. I was inspired by sounds used by Ben Howard and started messing about with different distortion effects. The lead in the end became a simple twinkling bell sound with extremely heavy and randomly modulating distortion. It seemed almost symbolic to take a pleasant sound and transform it into something more ambiguous. Naturally, minimal guitar followed, and Lyrics inspired by Christian Lee Hutson's very down-to-earth approach were added. The spaciousness and overall ambience-like quality of the piece were inspired by S Carey and his hauntingly beautiful vocals.
