This is a spoiler-filled video essay on the movie film known as Beau is Afraid (2023), written and directed by Ari Aster and starring Joaquin Phoenix. In this deconstruction/analysis/hidden meaning explained video we dive deep into the very surrealistic and up-for-interpretation Beau is Afraid, which, in our humble opinions here at Terror Formed, has been invaded with such overthinking like, "What if Beau is in a dream and the movie is all one big secret code for us to unlock this hidden fact." So, to counteract this kind of interpretation we decided to do some overthinking of our own, just the type that doesn't chalk it all up to being a dream or purgatory or what have you. Just as well, we provide a plot summary (brought you by the great MW Industries) for you to either brush up your memory or speed run so you can avoid the insane 3 hour experience that is Beau is Afraid. A very special thank you to Mona Wassermann and her team for funding the recap section of this video, we appreciate your support (and money)! On top of doing our best to explain this crazy movie and its ending, we also dive deep into how it relates to the themes and ideas of writer/director Ari Aster's previous two movies, Hereditary and Midsommar. Who doesn't love a good movie trilogy that ponders on the philosophy of determinism, ammiright??
