As kayak angling becomes more and more popular I seem to get more and more questions from people asking about topics such as storage, capabilities, styles and most importantly seems to be stability. For decades and decades we’ve all been accustomed to the traditional V shaped hulls of kayaks and all know how “tippy” they can be. I know first hand how unstable and straight up dangerous a V hull kayak can be once loaded with gear and that has all changed with the new hull designs of fishing kayaks being “pontoon” style hulls. What does this do? It means and makes all of the buoyancy stand on the outside edges of the kayak versus the dead center middle like you would see in a V shaped hull. With the new style of hulls you are completely capable of carrying a ton more weight and most importantly stand to cast no matter what environment you’re in. Check out this quick clip and demonstration of stability in the Old Town Predator PDL. If you find yourself interested in a purchase, stop by SHERPERS and ask to see their entire Old Town lineup.
