Its bi-directional so when the engine is off, it pours the power back to the 12V side in 1/400th of a second. This has another big difference to other DC-DC’s. It can automatically vary the power based on what is available from the alternator. For example, outboards have a very low output at idle. But at 50% max RPM, they are producing maximum output. Scotty just matches this and doesn’t stall or damage the engine at idle but takes full power at revs. This is also the fastest reversing bi-di in the industry.
