After a successful Striper Surf Day over the weekend at Rivers End Tackle, we have just two more big shows for the New England edition this year. First up on March 22 – 24, the New England Saltwater Fishing Show rolls into Providence, RI, for three days of saltwater fishing fun. Then, immediately following the next weekend on March 29 – 31, the 22nd annual Northeast Fishing & Hunting Show rounds out another successful show season with a stop in Hartford, CT. I’ll be doing a pair seminars at this show in room # 1 on Friday at 1 PM and then in room # 2 on Saturday 2 PM. I’ll be discussing how to catch huge striped bass on eels in the surf and I hope you can attend. The cod boats have gotten out a few times in the last week and found mixed to good action with fish to 30-plus pounds caught by one of the Long Island boats. The Frances Fleet did well on Saturday with a good shot of green codfish and a lot of bait, all good signs for a strong spring bite (so long as the weather cooperates!) With that same good weather that’s finally letting the cod boats sail, ice anglers hit the hard water in force over the weekend (prior to the rains, anyway.) I received an email from Lucian Vinci with some great pictures of a mess of crappie and bass that he and his friends landed in Central Connecticut on Saturday. I was driving up past Hartford on Sunday and saw a handful of guys still out on the ice in the rain showing more dedication to the ice than I have!
