Meghalaya: Infant rescued from coal pit in Jaintia Hills

Locals of Khliehriat in Meghalaya's East Jaintia Hills district rescued a five-month-old baby from a coal pit in Khloo Chongwar. The incident took place late on March 8 evening when the baby was discovered by some locals at around 11 PM. Upon finding the baby the residents immediately sprang into action and rushed the child to Khliehriat Civil Hospital. The baby was later referred to NEIGRIHMS in Shillong for further treatment. The infant was allegedly abandoned by the mother, who, according to police, is a person with a mental disability. So far, no FIR has been filed in connection with the case.
