Today's project required me to reach into my archive of footage for something I haven't released yet. I've been super busy with work and family obligations which has kept me out of the shop. I'm sure you guys know exactly what I'm talking about! Today's pen turning project is a Penn State Copper Gatsby Pen Kit (#PKGAPENAC). For the Pen Blank, I used a Stabilized Red Wood Burl from Craft Supplies. My website: http://www.wolfridgewoodworking.com/ Please subscribe to my channel: / @wolfridgewoodworking Pen making is one of the easiest projects to start with when you are beginning woodturning. All you need to get started woodturning a pen is a lathe, woodturning tools, a pen kit, a pen blank, sandpaper, some sort of finish, and a willingness to learn! The basic steps to turning a pen is: 1. Cut the pen blank to fit the brass tubes. 2. Drill the proper sized hole to fit the brass tubes. 3. Make the ends of the blank flat and square. 4. Turn the pen blank down to the correct bushings. 5. If a wood blank was used, sand to 400 grit or if acrylic, skip to step 6. 6. Apply a finish like CA glue. 7. Sand using micro mesh pads from 1500 to 12,000 grit. 8. Apply one or more coats of a plastic polish. Please leave a comment if there are any questions you have or if you feel like a missed explaining a step.
