@Divyaprathee Pongal, Tamil Nadu's harvest festival, is a vibrant celebration of gratitude to the Sun God. The festival is marked by rituals, feasts, and cultural events. From temple ceremonies in Madurai and Thanjavur to community feasts in Trichy, Tamil Nadu offers diverse ways to experience the festivities. Pongal is celebrated by Tamil-speaking people all over the world. In Tamil Nadu, people cooked pongal as a part of social gatherings, unmindful of religions in all districts. On the occasion of Mattu Pongal, cows, bulls, and other cattle were bathed, decorated, and worshipped at homes and farms. Turmeric, kumkum, and flower garlands were adorned on the cattle, and special prayers were offered. Key Celebration Steps Cleaning & Preparation: Homes and cattle sheds ('patti') are thoroughly cleaned, and traditional kolams are drawn with rice flour. Cattle Grooming: Cows and bulls are bathed, their horns polished and painted with bright colors, and metal caps are sometimes added Decorations: Garlands of flowers, beads, and bells are tied around their necks Offerings & Prayers: Turmeric and kumkum (vermilion) are applied to their foreheads. A special pongal dish (sweet rice), jaggery, bananas, and other fruits are offered. Prayers are offered for their health, as highlighted. We treat Cows as our god. We treat Cows and bulls as our family members. Pongal is one of the grand festival of Tamil people, especially farmers. We celebrate the Pongal festival for almost more than a week. We also celebrate Thai Pongal as a Tamil new year. Because we celebrate a day before a Pongal as a pogi day mean last day of everything. The day after the Pongal, we celebrate Mattu Pongal means we farmers respect cow and bull for these hard work for farming. In this video, we show how we celebrate our traditional festival.நம்ம கிராமத்து மாட்டுப்பொங்கல் திருநாள் 🐄🧉|village mattu pongal celebration |village life styleThe Pongal festivities take place over four days, the first day being “Bhogi”, which was on Monday when people burn their old clothes, mats, and other items. Homes are painted afresh. The second day is the main festival celebrated on the first day of the Tamil month, “Thai”. The third day is “Mattu Pongal” when bulls and cows are bathed and their horns painted and worshipped as they play an important role in farms.
