A tiny bit of sausage-making on the Bono illustration. There's a popular manga artist, Inio Asano, who is one of the rising stars of the latest generation of young Japanese comics creators. He employs a hyper-realized kind of photo-realism in his backgrounds. He takes pictures of everything and then turns them into hi-contrast black-and-white images and draws over them to give them a unique sort of presence. I've been interested in playing with his technique so for some of my more recent drawings, I've played around with the technique. This video slideshow shows step-by-step how I went from a helicopter's shot of Eugene Peterson's lakeside property to a drawing of the same. And definitely, the bulk of the work comes between steps 3 and 4. The time investment between 3 and 4 for these two small sections of the image probably took 45 minutes. The entire image took much much longer. You can see the image here: http://imgur.com/gallery/j2oSMNJ/new The documentary it refers to is here: • Bono & Eugene Peterson | THE PSALMS
