Tora-san's Shibamata (柴又)

Shibamata (柴又) is a neighborhood in eastern Tokyo – and it famous for being the home of Tora-san – the lead in the Showa classic movie series “Otoko wa Tsurai yo” – its hard being a man. There are many statues and posters highlighting Tora-san’s adventures and strolling around the town is very enjoyable. This video features the shopping street which stretches from the Shibamata Station to the wonderful Shibamata Taishakuten Temple. Beyond the gate, there is a 500 year old, large pine tree which resembles a dragon. Next stop is the Yamamoto-tei, a former merchant's residence which is now a matcha tea house. After that, the video highlights the Tora-san Museum. (The river scene at the start, focuses on the Yagiri no Watashi river crossing, Tokyo's only surviving traditional boat crossing between Tokyo and Chiba)
